Jerusalem/Tehran, June 8 — Israel and Iran exchanged a fresh round of military strikes on Monday, intensifying fears of a broader regional conflict as both sides continued retaliatory missile and air attacks.
The Israeli military said it carried out strikes against military targets in central and western Iran following an Iranian missile barrage launched toward Israel overnight. Israeli officials stated that the operation focused on missile launch sites and other military infrastructure. Explosions were reported in several Iranian cities, including Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz and Kermanshah.
Iran responded by launching another wave of missiles toward Israeli territory, triggering air raid sirens and prompting residents in several areas to seek shelter. Israeli air defense systems intercepted many of the incoming projectiles, although authorities continued to monitor potential threats.
The latest confrontation marks a significant escalation in tensions between the two longtime rivals and comes after a fragile ceasefire earlier this year. Regional leaders and international diplomats have renewed calls for restraint, warning that continued hostilities could destabilize the wider Middle East.
The conflict has also raised concerns over maritime security and energy supplies. Oil prices climbed as markets reacted to the renewed violence, while regional actors including Yemen's Houthi movement signaled support for Iran and threatened further action against Israeli-linked interests.
The United States said it was not involved in Israel's latest strikes, though Washington has urged both sides to avoid further escalation. Analysts warn that continued exchanges could increase the risk of a wider regional confrontation involving multiple actors across the Middle East.
