NASHVILLE — Ella Langley has turned her breakout country hit “Choosin’ Texas” into a piece of Billboard history, with the song spending its 15th nonconsecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The milestone puts the 27-year-old country singer in rare company and establishes “Choosin’ Texas” as the longest-running No. 1 non-holiday song by a woman without a credited male collaborator in the chart’s history.
The achievement comes as country music continues to make an increasingly powerful impact on the all-genre Hot 100.
A record-breaking country hit
“Choosin’ Texas” has now moved beyond the previous 14-week benchmark set by major female stars, including Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” and Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together.”
Langley’s song also surpasses the 13-week run achieved by Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine,” putting the Alabama-born singer firmly among the most successful female artists in Hot 100 history.
The only female-led song with a longer overall reign is Carey’s holiday classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which has accumulated 22 weeks at No. 1 across multiple holiday seasons.
From country success to mainstream phenomenon
Released in October 2025 and featured on Langley’s second studio album, Dandelion, “Choosin’ Texas” initially built its audience through country radio and streaming before becoming a mainstream phenomenon.
The song has also dominated Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, where it has spent more than 30 weeks at No. 1. Its success has helped make Langley one of the most prominent new stars in country music.
The song's appeal extends beyond the country audience. Its references to Texas, including Abilene and the classic country song “Amarillo by Morning,” have helped give it a strong regional identity while its catchy melody has allowed it to cross over into broader pop culture.
Miranda Lambert helped shape the song
“Choosin’ Texas” was co-written by Langley, Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick and JoyBeth Taylor.
Lambert, who also contributes backing vocals, helped inspire the song through a conversation with Langley. The track tells the story of a woman coming to terms with the fact that the man she loves is choosing his Texas roots over their relationship.
That simple premise became the foundation for one of the year's biggest songs.
Langley continues a remarkable year
The Hot 100 achievement is the latest in a string of major milestones for Langley.
Her second album, Dandelion, strengthened her position as one of country music's leading young artists, while her awards success and growing touring schedule have further expanded her profile.
“Choosin’ Texas” has also become a cultural touchstone during the summer, with the song appearing in viral social-media posts and gaining attention well beyond traditional country audiences.
A longer record could be within reach
Langley’s 15-week run also places her alongside Harry Styles’ “As It Was,” which spent the same amount of time atop the Hot 100.
But the bigger target is still ahead.
Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” and several other songs have reached 19 weeks at No. 1, while Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” holds the overall women's record with 22 weeks.
If “Choosin’ Texas” remains at the summit, Langley could continue climbing one of the most exclusive lists in popular music.
For now, however, the achievement is already historic: a young country artist from Alabama has taken a song celebrating Texas and transformed it into one of the defining chart successes of 2026.
